Sometime back we happened upon a book by T.Harv Eker called “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind’. He was actually giving away a free downloadable copy of the book as an incentive to attend his conference in Sydney. The book is basically about how your thoughts can affect the amount of money or abundance you receive in your life, and in my personal opinion, it is an excellent read.
I know there are a lot of skeptics who debunk the idea that we create our own world by our thoughts, but I was interested enough in what Harv Eker wrote to attend the Millionaire Mind Intensive in Sydney earlier this month. This was one of those free seminars where they teach you a heap of stuff but they also promote the hell out of their products….so it’s almost like attending a 3 day infomercial. But if you can put the promotional stuff aside, the stuff he teaches is really worth taking in and the book is excellent.
Apart from wanting to hear just what Harv Eker had to say, we were really interested in finding out more about his 7 jars money system. Financial freedom is so important and when you start receiving large amounts of money it is very easy to just blow it, and this is something we don’t want to do.
I guess I need to take a step back, before discussing the seminar more fully. Before our business really took off we were becoming a bit, how shall I say it, hmm, despondent. We were working long hours and putting everything we had into trying to make our business a success but not much was really happening…we were basically struggling with the online business. Now Paula has been a long time advocate of self improvement and the power of positive thinking. I on the other hand have been a long time skeptic about this “stuff” as I called it. Well one day something she said just clicked with me, can’t remember what it was but it was a quote from Tony Robbins.
So I thought well it can’t hurt to listen to what he has to say. And as I played Tony’s lessons on my ipod when I went walking, it all began to make more and more sense
I could turn my life around and only I was responsible for my happiness and my feelings and by taking some positive action I could make all the difference to my world. So we started to factor some time each day before we started our work to listen to the audio versions of Tony Robbins and then The SGR Program (Science of Getting Rich), The Four Agreements, The Power of Now and Secrets of the Millionaire Mind along with a number of other self improvement books.
Now I don’t know if it was coincidence or not but the more we listened to these people the more opportunities began to come our way. Our income improved quite significantly and we became more positive in our actions.
Thoughts –> Emotions –> Actions = Results.
Anyway back to the T. Harv Eker ‘Millionaire Mind Intensive’.
This proved to be 3 days of full on interaction. It was definitely a positive experience and it was well worth attending. But as we have already mentioned, there are certain times during the conference where a lot of promotion for further courses and a lot of product selling of books and resources goes on. And although some may find this hard sell off-putting, we find that if you are resolved to not getting swept along with the hype, you can enjoy the things that are beneficial to you and ignore the rest. It wasn’t like they chased us around to get us to buy their products and we could leave at anytime when they started into the hype.
It was amazing to actually to watch them in action and see how easily people could be swept up in it as they literally raced down to the back tables to sign-up to courses which were in the thousands of dollars. These people really know how to promote. The only thing we ended up buying was a motivational meditation cd set which is something we knew we would use.
I was also amazed at how people can be ‘encouraged’ to pour their heart out, at times to perfect strangers. Not my thing, regardless of how much I am told that letting it all go will help me on my way to becoming a millionaire. I think it is more about having a positive approach, an action plan and a financial strategy in place and just being a little relaxed about it all.
I do recommend that you read “The Secrets of a Millionaire Mind” or attend the Millionaire Mind Intensive, just leave your checkbook at home so that you don’t rush into signing up for something you may not need. Go home and think about it first, don’t get swept up in the hype of ‘only this price at this conference’.
So, on a more positive note, the book itself is well worth reading if you want to change your thoughts about money. Eker uses lots of comparisons between the rich and the poor. For example:
- Rich people associate with positive people, poor people associate with negative people.
- Rich people are excellent receivers, poor people are poor receivers.
- Rich people believe ‘I create my life’. Poor people believe, ‘Life happens to me’.
- Rich people act in spite of fear. Poor people let fear stop them.
- Rich people focus on opportunities, poor people focus on obstacles.
Eker suggested that giving is most important, not only for the receiver but also for the giver. So we decided to put into practice some of what we learnt and we started by each taking $20 worth of $5 notes with us on our daily walk (while we were in Sydney) and giving it out to various homeless people on the street. The idea is to carry the money in your pocket, as you don’t want to be pulling out your purse on the street all the time, and to give it out without judgment. It helps with training your mind to not judge how a person may have arrived at their situation, and not to think about how they will spend the money, or whether or not they show gratitude, but just to give unconditionally.
In a nutshell the basic premise of the Secrets of a Millionaire Mind is that you set yourself up with a ‘money blueprint’ which sticks with you for as long as you hold onto it. So if you constantly believe that you can never be rich, that you can’t make ends meet and that you never have any money then that’s what will be the result in your life. Eker’s thinking is that if you believe money isn’t that important then you are most likely broke.
Money is important in my opinion – without it we can’t exist in the society we live in. We need it to survive so it’s incredibly important. And why would you only want a small amount to just get by? Who created that thinking for us? We should have enough money to have the freedom that we all deserve as well as to help others. Wouldn’t you love to help a friend who is in a financial crisis, wouldn’t you love to help a child who desperately needs an operation, wouldn’t you love to fund a school in an underdeveloped country? Only money can do this but for some reason many of us feel that we only deserve just enough to cover our expenses and maybe have a little fun if we can afford to. How limiting is that?
Then there are others that say that money can’t buy you happiness. I agree with that but then again being poor ain’t going to make you happy either. At least if you have plenty of money, you don’t have any worries about paying your bills and feeding your family – those problems disappear. I love this quote which pretty much sums it up:
“Money can’t buy happiness But I’d rather cry in my Ferrari”

I’d love to have a copy! Sounds interesting. And I love the quote! LOL
Me too, its one of my favorite quotes. Good luck in the draw Laura.
I would love to get a copy!
Its an excellent book Todd, Good Luck.
I’d be very interested to read this. I think mindset is one of the things which is holding me back – I’ve had very little money for my entire life, and I’m sort of comfortable there, even though it causes frequent hassles with scraping together enough cash to pay rent etc. To have a decent cashflow and financial freedom would be a really big change, and some part(s) of me are resistant to that change.
Many successful business owners have built businesses up, gone bankrupt, then fairly quickly built up a new business. Obviously contacts and knowledge play a part, but I think mindset plays a huge part too. Most people don’t believe they can achieve, and they don’t. I’m trying to change my beliefs, my self-identity, because success will only come when I believe in its possibility.
Exactly Craig. Successful business owners can easily build up another successful business because their money blueprint is set up for success.
Don’t know if you can send one to the U.S., but sounds like a great read, and I love a motivational read.
We can send to anywhere in the world Tammie.
I would love a copy of the book….If I am meant to have one I will be one of your five, or at least picked from the hat if there are more than five of us.
I have just started back to practising ‘this’ way of thinking. A friend recently told me to look for miracles….I got off email, walked on to the balcony and saw a shooting star. That was miracle enough for me.
It’s not easy to re-condition the mind though, so, that why I said practice….it’s an ongoing practise right now, until I master it perfectly.
Cheers!
r
I’ve heard that before too Ruth – look for miracles and you will find them. Look for the negatives in life and you will find those too. It really comes down to the way we look at things. Two people can go through the same experience and each react in a totally different way. How you react will make a huge difference in your life.
I’d love to be a recipient in your “The Secrets of a Millionaire Mind’ book giveaway.
Why me? Well because I believe I am already on this path and would appreciate more guidance. Hubby and I have already started gifting some of our earnings to charities and causes.
And call it karma but my earnings have increased over this time.
However, maybe it would be more beneficial to gift the copies to people who have not yet started down this road.
I’ll leave it to you!
Good luck in the draw Dawn. It’s good to see that you are already on this path. From the great things that have happened for us since we have been practicing positive thoughts and taking positive actions including the art of gifting.
This book certainly helps cement a positive blueprint in everyday thinking, and its one that I tend to come back to.
Thank you so much for the heads up about the “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind”. It sounds like a great motivating book. I really look forward to reading it. I have always believed in an abundant life and that is all I have experienced even though I came from a economically poor background. I picked up the same attitude and belief in abundance from reading your blog. That is why I enjoy it so much. The attitude is communicated between the lines in every post you guys make.
Please give a copy of the book to someone else. I just picked up a “very good” condition used copy from Amazon for $3.98 with free shipping. There are over 300 copies available there at very low prices so if you want one and don’t get one of the free copies here. There is your answer.
Thanks for the “heads up” on Amazon having so many copies. I got some great deals on used books from them and most of them looked as near to new as it didn’t matter. I often pay more in postage than the cost of the book!
I shall hold off for a few days in case I’m one of the lucky ones here – but it sounds a great book and I shall buy it from Amazon if need be.
I agree Dawn, don’t rush in just yet. LOL
Well, I would love to read this book. I’ve listened to him talk on a variety of subjects and he’s very inspiring. When life catches you out as it did me over the last few years (I was very ill for over 15 years and also lost my husband when my son was 13 months old), I absolutely know I couldn’t have pulled myself out without a firm belief that one day I would be able to change misfortune into good fortune. Listening to positive messages (including T. Harv Eker) every night helped me to start doing that. I haven’t fully cracked the money bit yet, but I’m on my way…..
I really believe listening or reading motivational and self help books on a daily basis is essential. We tend to lapse back into old ways of thinking when we don’t so we make it part of our regular routine.
Wow, what a great offer. I’m definitely interested in receiving a copy of this book!
Sunshine
I’ll admit, sometimes I have a hard time LISTENING to Mr. Eker but that’s just my personal bias. (“Am I right or am I right!”) He obviously knows what he’s talking about but I haven’t read any of his works. But I would like to!
I also enjoyed your comments about how you both have incorporated the right ‘mindset’ into your everyday lives.
Please consider me for your book giveaway. I promise to ‘listen’ with an open mind.
Thanks!
Mark
Reading rather than listening to Harv Eker may be a better option for you. Harv Eker is a salesman at heart so he can come across like he is trying to promote something. But I think the way to approach him is to ignore the promotional stuff and focus on what he is trying to get across.
This was a great post! I love the part where you said before things took off you were becoming a bit despondent. I can honestly say that that’s where I’m at right now. Sometimes when you guys say certain things, I feel like its a reason I read your blog. Almost like it was meant to happen. I have had the book “The Four Agreements” for over three years now but have never took the time to read it. After reading this post I know its time to read it. Thanks for the great read.
P.S I hope I win a copy of “Secrets of a Millionaire Mind” I’ve never won anything besides a card game lol.
The Four Agreements is an excellent read. It’s one of my favorite books actually. I also have the audio version and love the voice of Peter Coyote who reads it.
I’d love a copy of this book!
Sounds like a great seminar, despite the infomercial hype. If it ever comes to my area, I’m going to go to it.
It is worth attending. It can be a bit draining after three days but we got a lot out of it.
Here is a link to a Millionaire Mind Intensive teleseminar if you want to get a taste of T.Harv Eker in action Cathy.

He kind of sounds like a used car salesman (tee-hee). The conferences look good though. Drats, no conferences coming in my area
I would love a copy of this book also. I read “Think And Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill and I understand the importance of having a positive attitude and visualising in your minds eye basically you swimming in a pool of cash :) However putting it into practice against the external pressures of the real world is proving difficult for me. I recently got a substantial payrise at work which has, if anything, caused that urgency I had to make more money online decrease.
I am constantly making affirmations in my head to keep myself on the right path, but it can be hard..
There are so many positive books our there, and I also have Think and Grow Rich. Congratulations on the pay rise. This book gives you a series of ‘declarations’ to make on a daily basis which help change your money blueprint. It is important to practice affirmations, declarations etc for a minimum of 24-30 days. Also your declarations need to be said out loud to re-enforce them. You need to put emotion behind them and this is what verbalising does.
Remember – Thoughts lead to Emotions which lead to Actions, which = Results.
Thanks Wanda :) It is great to have extra cash because I can pay the bills without having to worry which leaves me in a better frame of mind for marketing.
I will give saying things out loud a try, it was something I started doing but of course neglected after a while.
I must admit though, reading success stories helps me a lot too. Its one thing to know where to go but another to know how to get there. Seems to be the flavour of the month at the moment with various people I look up making blog posts related in one way or another to their life stories and how they came to be where they are now.
Anyway I’m rambling :P
Totally agree with you, Wanda – our mind is so important when it comes to success in life. If we don´t worry but DO, if we just take action and try no matter what – we succeed. I didn´t realize for a long time but I already did so often. For example – when my husband and I bought our home it was clear that I had to have success with my business or we couldn´t survive – there was no opportunity so I just did what was necessary to survive and it worked really well :-) So why shouldn´t that work with money?
Great article, will look into the audio version :-)
Having to succeed because you really have to in order to survive is one of the best motivators. This is one of the problems with a lot of people who want to make a success of working online as they oftentimes have no real motivation behind them. They generally have a full time job already so the money is still flowing in so they don’t really put as much effort into their online business as they could.
I also read the e-book T Harv Eker was giving away a couple of months ago. It really is a great book and I’m planning on reading it again very soon. I’ve been into the self development for a few years now since (thankfully) being introduced via my network marketing business.
I now know how important it is to change the way we think if we want success. Depending on our upbringing and what we’re exposed to as we grow up, the thoughts and beliefs that we ‘inherit’ are truly what creates our lives and our reality.
My husband was very much a skeptic also, but now reads daily from a good book!
I have a huge list of favorite books and a huge list of books to be read. I also have a whole stack of CD’s and DVD’s.
Some other great teachers worth reading or listening to include:
Pat Mesiti (Australian!)
Jim Rohn
Dennis Waitley
Tony Robbins
Bob Proctor
Chris Widener
Napoleon Hill (of course!)
and some freebies (both available on my site)-
As a Man Thinketh – James D Allen
The Science of Getting Rich – Wallace D Wattles
and my personal favorites – Conversations with God 1,2&3 by Neale Donald Walsh.
Thanks for the list Sue. There are a couple on there that I have never heard of so I will be checking them out.
I’m like you, I am a huge fan of these types of books and have a bookshelf full of them. I have since started buying books on my iPad using the Kindle software so it has stopped the growing pile up of physical books I have in my bookshelf.
I truly believe that you have to keep reading or listening to this type of content on a daily basis in order to stay focused.
Please put me in for the book also. I could really relate to what you said about slipping back into old negative ways. Yes tapes and positive readings can really help keep your eye on the prize.
Internet marketing is such a challenge that a little success here and there can really start the ball rolling. A few sales help us begin to look at this business in a positive way knowing that we’ll succeed and allowing success to enter our lives on a daily basis.
What you say is so true Jerry. We were really happy when we made our first $10, it wasn’t much but it showed that maybe this could work. When we made $100 we thought – Oh wow, this is really great, so when our first $10,000 came along we were ecstatic. And coincidence or not, our increased opportunities, sales and income came after we started putting into practice the positive thinking and action ‘stuff’.
Thank you for your comment and good luck in the draw.
I’d love a copy! Did you mention we could arm wrestle for it? Or was it wrestle a crocodile?
If there is a drawing or something like that, count me in. If I have to wax the Ferrari, while you cry in it (which made me laugh out loud, what a quote!), then let’s do that.
Otherwise, I’ll have to settle for buying from your links.
I notice you didn’t use the Ninja Affiliate cloaker on the Amazon links, though? Ah, well. Thanks for the good book review.
I can’t agree more that having a proper mindset is the biggest hurdle to cross – it really is weird but true.
I’m prepared to arm wrestle for this book but not the crocodile stuff! Heck – I’m an old lady now. haven’t wrestled a croc since last Christmas!
Classic Dawn. That croc wrestling takes its toll.
You’re in the draw James. Hey I like the idea of having you wrestle a crocodile, could be interesting. You might end up as croc dinner though. Is a book really worth that effort. Hmmm, could be.You would definitely have to put the powers of positive thinking and action into that process.
I BEAT THE CROC!
And I have all my appendages! Thank you guys (is this spoiling a post or what?) – I really appreciate your giveaway.
Red Ferrari and $600+ speeding tickets, here we come! :)
Oh, I wanted t also suggest Brain Tracy’s body of work – especially on closing sales. He’s definitely a great read for anyone trying to get to the psychology of sales, and it sounds heady but it’s really eye-opening for anyone writing copy or selling in face to face situations.
Thanks James, will get a hold of a copy and have a read.
Hi,i would love to have a copy of the book but im from singapore so im not sure if im eligible for the draw.
Anyway, i totally agree with you that money is important. Everything needs money! But for me, i feel money is only important if we have health and good relationship with family/friends.
Imagine, if we were to strike with a citical illness, no matter how rich we are, we would not be able to do most of the things we would love to do like travelling etc. Money would also be meaningless if we do not have the love and warmth of a family to share our wealth and time with.
May everyone be healthy, wealthy and happy! :)
Yes Jonas, you are eligible. We have the books on hand and will be posting them to the winners.
I agree with your sentiments that health and family are very important. Its all about balance.
Hi Paula and Wanda,
How are you doing?
What an AMAZING and Inspirational post! Thank you so much!
We would love to have a copy of this book but first I have a true testimonial to share with you and everyone that is reading this.
Our businesses and our lives were at a stand-still a couple of years ago. No matter how hard I worked at it , nothing changed!
Until….
My HEART CHANGED!
We were so focused on ourselves that we forgot about the rest of our extended family, our communities and the people in our lives.
So my eyes were opened…my heart shifted and I started GIVING!
And most importantly, I gave earnestly…without thinking or wanting any praise.
And since then, I continue to give to the church, to family when needed, to friends when needed, projects to help children, projects to feed people, etc.
Results?
Our business has flourished and is constantly growing but most importantly, I found true happiness.
There is no better feeling in the world than to know you have made someone happy. I’m telling you this by experience. I sleep peacefully and satisfied at night knowing that I, Tony, have made a difference in this world.
Have you made a difference in this world? Have you helped someone today? This is what I tell myself before I lay my head on my pillow at night.
And if the answer is “YES”! WOW! What a great way to end the day and to begin tomorrow.
Your story is truly inspirational,Tony, thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Being in a position of being able to help others is something that we cherish and value. As you say there is no better feeling than knowing you have helped someone without judgement or reservation.
Dear Paula and Wanda,
I have just started out with the Amazonian Profit Plan and am having great fun with it.
I am always in the market for some extra motivation though and “The Secrets Of The Millionaire Mind” looks just the ticket.
I agree with the other guys here who have commented on how hard it is to stay motivated sometimes but I always remind myself that if it was easy then where would the challenge be?
Love this blog too – usually pop by every couple of days to catch up on things in the Paula & Wanda community.
Chris
What an excellent outlook Chris, unfortunately not everyone enjoys a challenge and that’s when they give up. Often just when their business is at a turning point, so they never know how close they were.
So glad you are enjoying the APP. Good luck in the draw.
It’s a strange quirk of human nature. We read again and again and again that money (past basic sustaining levels) brings zero extra happiness, yet despite know that, we continue to do that, and make quotes about ferrari’s to back ourselves up….
It’s interesting how talk of money stirs things within people. I’m not sure why really. Money is simply a way for us to pay our bills, buy food, help others and basically enjoy our lives. But for some people, having more than just enough seems to create conflict within them.
I personally would still rather cry in my Ferrari than cry in my beat up old car which I have to live in because I can’t afford the rent. There are rich people that are unhappy and there are poor people that are unhappy, so it has nothing to do with the money which is why there is no point in anyone having a negative reaction to it.
Thank you very much! I’m so looking forward to reading this book. Almost as much as I look forward to your next new post! :)
I had this book with me, read 1 chapter and didn’t continue .. sincerely i didn’t know it’s so powerful … maybe i should read it back :) Thanks.
Not everyone will like this book. I just know that we did and it has changed our thinking about money so it was well worth the read.
