Working from home is a dream for the majority of the population but it takes discipline, commitment and determination. So do you have what it takes to actually do it? Some people just aren’t prepared for a lifestyle where they set their own timeframes and goals and so they fail miserably.
To work from home you need motivation
Without it you are better off staying at your regular day job. Remember that you will be your own boss and you will be in charge. There won’t be anyone around to tell you what you should and shouldn’t be doing – it is all up to you (and maybe your partner). You will need to set up a plan and stick to it. Of course, being your own boss means you can take more time out for yourself but this shouldn’t become a habit. Always keep your eye on the goal to maintain your motivation.
To work from home you need an interest
There is no point working from home just for the sake of it. Just wanting to be your own boss is not a reason to throw in your job. Your income and your motivation come from working at something you are interested in. If you have have no interest in what you are doing then you are not likely to succeed. If on the other hand you are working at home on something you love doing the money will follow.
To work from home you need to be prepared for the ups and downs
Remember that having a home business means that your income may not always be static. One week you might make a lot of money and the next week very little. You need to be prepared for the ups and downs which means budgeting for the lean times. If a regular income is more comforting to you then a regular job with regular pay is probably a better option for you.
To work from home you need to take risks
Leaving your regular day time job to work at home is a risk in itself so if you have taken the plunge then you are probably already a bit of a risk taker. This is a good thing as the most successful people in life are generally risk takers.
Working from home is an extremely rewarding experience. So if you think you have what it takes then take the plunge.
We have never regretted having tossed in our stable, government jobs to take on the challenge of Affiliate Marketing and our online jewellery business. Both are demanding, challenging and not without risk, but we are loving the freedom and the risk taking is a good adrenaline rush which makes you feel alive.
