If you’ve been keeping track of our latest blog posts, you will know that we are having major issues with keeping this site running smoothly. We were with Bluehost originally and the site would be constantly down with no warning from them. We decided to move it to Hostgator but Hostgater constantly shut the site down (at least they gave us a warning unlike Bluehost). Then we moved the site to WPEngine which is awesome but not really cost effective for a site not making any money.
So we brought the site back to Hostgator and all was going well until the past few days when Hostgator decided to take the site down yet again. For the past few days it has been down and despite making changes, Hostgator still won’t reinstate it. We don’t really know what the problem is and Hostgator aren’t in the business to help their customers work out these issues.
So we had to have a think about whether we even wanted to keep this site running. This has never been a big money making site for us and really has just been a way for us to babble on about what we do online as well as provide tips and hints for others trying to make money online. As you can probably tell, neither of us have added much to the site lately so is it really worth keeping at all?
So we had a chat about it and decided to give it one last chance. We decided we needed to move from Hostgator so we have made the move to StableHost. Will it be the right move? Who knows, but Stablehost have received quite good reviews so we thought we would give them a shot.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed….
Dear Ladies,
Why people host only with 2 major hosting company and leave behind less know or heard about.
I’ve been hosting with Lunarpages since 2007 and never, ever had any major issue.
Besides, if there was some risk with my website I was always warned by email and then Support helped me to solve it. I tried Hostgator who weren’t bad at all, however their CPanel is outdated. With Lunarpages my WP run websites get updated automatically when new WP version comes up. I also receive auto email that there is new WP version and the following sites will be updated.
Try it at least. Prices are very competitive too. I don’t want to spam here with affiliate codes to get 15% off because comments are not for this propose, but I highly recommend them.
Yes, it’s definitely worth going with some of the smaller hosting companies. The big two…Bluehost and Hostgator, have been bought out by some big company and that never bodes well for customer service. It all becomes about making more money and in the end the customer is the one that loses out.
Even though you guys don’t make much on this site you still have a pretty good base of people including myself that comes back frequently. I figured you were having server issues which is why I kept coming back. I still enjoy your updates and learning from the things you guys are doing. I agree that adding an extra task on an already filled plate can be challenging. But I think people in the community respect how you make money online so you will always have an audience eager to learn from the two of you. Keep it going for as long as you can!! Thanks for always sharing Paula!
Hi Paula! I love hostmonster. I’ve rarely had problems with them over a 4 year period and I’ve spend many 14 to 18 hour days online, hopping in and out of my blog. Support rocks, and the people are helpful. I know you went with another hoster, but if you really dream to keep the blog alive I’d give them a look.
I’ve linked up to my review above. Yep, I’m an affiliate but I do believe in the service deeply.
All the best, and of course, tweeted this post ;)
Does is come with fantastico autoinstaller?
Thanks!
Hi Lucia
Stablehost comes with softaculous instead of fantastico. Softaculous is almost the same thing but apparently has more scripts and a better user experience.
Cheers
God always help ladies..
Do not worry.
Will visit your blog.
thanks
Hey,
I will be so mad at you gals if you take this site down. I can’t say I’ve been religously checking back here recently, but I used to, and I still come back every so often. The last few times I came here I saw something like “403 forbidden”, and I was like “dam, there site is have issues!” Lol. I checked back while it was like that for over a week, and I was like ahh they probably haven’t even checked back here often enough to notice it’s like that, lol. I can’t imagine it’s costing you too much money to keep this up. If you’re making money with other websites, you can easily throw this site as an addon domain.
I wish you two would be more generous in terms of sharing what you’re doing these days. It’s especially enjoyable for people who’ve been following you for years. I do my own thing now, but I would still love to know what you two are up to — like the specifics. I do alot of work with amazon affiliates, and you two were pulling such big numbers back in the day that it’s important for you to share!
As for stablehost, I use them and several ‘small’ web hosting companies to host my link networks, and I don’t think I’ve ever had any problems. Studyhost, downtownhost and host-nice are a few others I use and haven’t had any problems. Sometimes I feel like their support teams are mentally challenged, but they’re there for me when I need them. You could also try hawkhost or levelhosting. I host sites with all of them. Most of them are about $3-4 per month, host-nice is like $12 for the first year. Anyway, to sum it up, please don’t shut this down and please share more specifics with what you’re doing these days. You would be amazed just how much you can share with complete strangers without actually putting your business at risk. Thanks!
Julian
Thanks Julian. We have been with StableHost since writing this post and so far we are happy with them. We were just having way too many problems hostgator continually taking the site down. We intend to keep the site going and are looking forward to posting on a more regular basis in the future.
Iv been with hostgator for years. Iv never had any issues with them. Once in a while the site will be down for maintenance but i think all hosting companies will do this. How many times has your been down?
Liam
The site was down 7 to 10 times. It was even worse when we had it with
Bluehost and at least Hostgator gave us warning that the site was down. So far we haven’t had any problems with StableHost. Everything is running smoothly at the moment.
It is unfortunate to hear how much trouble you guys have been having with your website and hosting company. Based on your recent experiences… what would you say is the best (least intrusive) hosting company? I’ve been looking for a good one myself that not only respects privacy of your content, but also provides good service.
Well so far Stablehost are looking to be pretty good. I also liked WPEngine but it was quite a bit more expensive than Stablehost.
Before all of the online law debacles such as CISPA and SOPA, I would of recommended GoDaddy, because at least I’ve never had any issues with them when it came to actually running the site I used to run before hand. Now, I wouldn’t know what to recommend. I’ve wanted to move to HostGator, but after hearing your experience, I’ll probably stay away. I think Wix is a potential good one.
I’ve never heard of Wix. There are so many hosting companies out there. One of our readers also recommended A Small Orange. They have very good reviews.
If your problem is with the budget and downtime . Then i think you should give another just to Hostgator , Alternatives can be iPage . I have written about both of them in my blog . I have linked it that above . Just check it and choose a suitable Web host.
I doubt we will go back to Hostgator for this site. I don’t think they will change their policy and we will only end being shut down again. At the moment Stablehost are looking good so we will stick with them for the time being.
Hostgator and ipage has been the best choice for me regarding web hosting companies. They both have an excellent support and great up time.
Hostgator are okay until you have a problem. But unfortunately they don’t tell you what the problem is. They just leave you to it to figure it out and most people don’t have the technical skills to know what might be the problem with their website.
I don’t think it is cost effective for them to help their customers to that degree.
Hi Paula and Wanda, please please don’t take this site down. Your posts truly are filled with pearls of wisdom. I am a member of your Affiliate HQ site, but still, this blog has great tidbits lying around all over it. You ladies are a tremendous asset to the community. Rick.
Thanks for the lovely comments Rick. At this point, things are looking good so hopefully the site will stay.
I’ve had a similar experience with several hosts, and bounced around with 12 live sites. I just left parked domains at Name Cheap, but moved the sites to a host called ‘A Small Orange’. I monitor the sites’ downtime with Uptime Robot – and downtime all but disappeared with the new host. As an added bonus, site speed has been great – Uptime Robot reports 400ms (with occasional spikes to 1 second), versus other hosts at 1500ms (and spikes over 10 seconds!!) – even on Cloudflare! Life is good ~
I hope all works out for your sites. I’ve just begun to soak up your site; seems like a pity if you just threw in the towel now. Hang in there!
We were considering A Small Orange at one point. They get very good reviews.
Ipage is my all time favorite when thing come on uptime server or support, they are just awesome.
Hi Paula,
I am newbie blogger and think to take hosting service from hostgator but after reading your post, I have confused and I have to think again, I should buy from hostgator or not.
Thanks
Jyoti

Lucia am sure they have coz most host have softaculous I am planing to leave. Arvixe after much suspension, deleting of my content and migration as soon as it expires

All the best with it, Paula!
I have recently entered this blogging world and was confused about which hosting service to take up but eventually I was convinced about hostgator but after reading this it seems I will have to redo my searches. Thanks for sharing this!!
Oh! Thanks for providing this information, I was firstly going for these web hostings, but now I think I have to re do my research for a better web hosting.
Host Gator and BlueHost are Providing cheap and effective services for people, effective and also cheap option and best in customer service. You can pay as little as $4 per month and have unlimited space online. Thank you for this post paula..
Hostgator is great hosting provider, I’m using their services for 3 years and without any problems.
Well every one has their own way of thinking. But i always prefer Hostgator and ipage. Because both are awesome and i haven’t face any problem.
Hello Paula,
It is sad to see that you have been facing problems with your hosting company. Have you tried GoDaddy? I’ve hosted my site on GoDaddy and it works perfectly fine. I don’t have much knowledge about Stablehost but keeping in mind your website traffic and the money you want to make via this blog, give it a chance for GoDaddy to host your website.
